Friday, Jan. 30, 2004 - 1:34 p.m. After my last post I got an e-mail from my friend David who taught English in Japan for awhile (and now lives in Paris)...Here's what he had to say... ----------------------------------------------- ...It is not at all easy coming home, trying to tell the stories to people and quickly realizing that you need to get it down to thirty seconds or less or else people are going to go to sleep on you. And don't get me started on stereotypes - 'no, I wasn't robbed once a week' or whatever. I actually got that one today, talking about the delegates of the people I work for who went to Mexico. It's crazy! ...the trick to remember is that it isn't 'the experience of a lifetime' - merely the first of many. Of course, I type that as I sit in my cushy apartment that looks out on the Eiffel tower - but that's the trick, isn't it - to just go do something cool again. -------------------------------------- How I look forward to 'doing something cool again'. I went to a presentation about the Peace Corps Thursday night. It was interesting and informative and I'm now thinking more about WHEN I'll do the Peace Corps rather than IF. That and trying to juggle my desire to improve my Spanish with my desire to travel to another part of the world I haven't been to yet! At the moment I'm at home in Seattle job hunting. It sux looking for work right now with the economy being down and not having any money (actually in debt). But in the meantime I've been hanging out with friends and spending time with the family. The weather here has been lame too. I got home to the coldest winter temps in 20 years! Brrrrr! But I can't complain about having the best adventure of my life in South America. It'll be hard to beat, but I'll try anyway. I finally just signed up with a temp agency after a few job leads turned cold on me...sigh...I look forward to having a little income in the near future...
